The challenge.

Offline, inefficient processes that stunted growth.

As Skirting World expanded its market share, internal systems failed to keep pace. A rapidly increasing order amount – received from the company’s ecommerce store – were becoming difficult to process, often requiring hours of manual effort to compile and assign work tasks to teams.

Without a central workflow or job-tracking system, operations – including cutting, tooling, finishing, and shipping teams – Skirting World relied heavily on inefficient offline methods, such as spreadsheets and whiteboards. This led to planning staff arriving at 4am to prepare the day’s work, with each team struggling with processes that were inefficient, prone to manual error, and likely to increase customer service queries and complaints.

Any delays or inefficiencies in one department were also compounded, leading to knock-on effects across other departments in their in-house, end-to-end, multi-stage manufacturing chain.

It was apparent to senior management that this situation was ultimately holding the company back, as the absence of a reliable digital infrastructure wasn’t just a technical issue – it was blocking scalable growth.

In a bid to resolve the issue and enable the growth set out in the client’s strategic plan, Skirting World approached ioSTUDIOS to create a bespoke digital ERP platform that would automate their entire manufacturing pipeline, from ecommerce order intake to final delivery.

The solution.

Delivering SWIO – a highly productive, bespoke ERP solution.

ioSTUDIOS delivered a comprehensive, cloud-based manufacturing and ERP solution known as SWIO. Developed from scratch, the solution would aim to transform Skirting World’s entire operation.

A BigCommerce integration would ensure Orders were automatically sent over. Once received by SWIO these Orders would be directed through a set of highly intuitive production workflows that were custom built for each department – on a range of devices – based on specific requirements.

Admin users had access to a centralised interface that displayed the full lifecycle of every order, with real-time updates on production status. On the factory floor, dedicated tablets would display product blueprints to be used by cutters and finishers. Once production was complete, shippers would use fixed computer stations and fast-food-style smart TV’s to label and wrap.

A core technical hurdle was the need to manipulate and present order data in a practical, beneficial manner to each department. This required careful R&D and prototyping effort to ensure order data was translated into intuitive visual tasks and instructions that enhanced productivity across the chain. Another challenge was ensuring that data and actions across the system were updated for all users in real time, preventing duplication of effort, time, or material.

This was a true full-stack revolution. From the core .NET and Angular architecture to RESTful integration with BigCommerce and Google Services, SWIO represented a full modernisation of Skirting World’s operations.

The result.

Strengthened operations and productivity through intelligent, data-driven ERP workflows.

The project was deployed in a big-bang launch, followed by a structured series of improvement sprints.

The launch of SWIO instantly revolutionised Skirting World’s manufacturing and delivery capabilities. What was once a manually orchestrated workflow is now fully digitised and intelligently managed across every department. Staff no longer need to start work at 4am, and the entire order lifecycle is transparent, traceable, and accountable.

The collaboration between ioSTUDIOS and Skirting World proved incredibly successful. This high-trust partnership enabled faster decision-making and more effective delivery that led to the entire project running on budget and on schedule.

The platform is continually optimized and enhanced through a range of agile sprints and a software Support & Maintenance SLA. Such extensions include a Driver App and Transport Manager module that brought deliveries in-house – eliminating the need for third-party couriers. This module integrates with TravelTime to calculate the most efficient routes and with TxtLocal to send customers delivery notifications at each stage of production.

Since implementation, enough skirting board has been produced via SWIO to circle the globe – a testament to both the scale and success of the system. The platform has become the operational backbone of our sector-leading client – enabling data-driven decision-making and future-proof scalability.
